Falling on the floor, getting up on your feet, its all part of growing up and if the fall wasn’t too bad, you can comfort your kid with this new Swedish invention: Tröstisar hugging band aids! They offer comfort when children are in pain or are upset. First cover the wound with a standard sterile band aid, then simply stick the cuddly band aid on top, or any other place on the skin where your child can reach. A hugging band aid is soft and comforts your kid just like a pluche! A normal band aid in combination with a cuddly band aid does miracles! However, I would recommend using the first-aid kit in more severe cases! The cuddly band aids are the perfect solution for when your kid loses his stuffed animal and even a visit to the GP, the dentist or the hospital!
I always find press conferences interesting, as you get to see the latest products, combined with a bite and a drink and I always see some new faces. This afternoon I was in Amsterdam for a meeting of BabyBjorn. BabyBjorn is a wonderful family company that produced the well-known Babysitter in the 60’s and the famous Carrier in the 70’s. The owners Bjorn and his wife Lillemor Jakobson are still very intensively involved with the organization of developing products and design. And I had the pleasure to personally meet them in Sweden, a couple of years ago. Now I always find it extremely hard to meet in the city centre, but parking went smoothly and I easily found the location; it was so original! We were at the Bag Museum Hendrikje at the Herengracht, and a small committee with some other bloggers, in a beautiful room with high ceilings, golden ornaments and beautiful wall paintings. The communication manager Mirja Alvin showed us the newest BabyBjorn products, such as the new useful chair raiser with handle and attachment belts which are easily stored away by the use of a winding system with just one push of a button. The new Classic Original Carrier in the new colours Lightblue and Raspberry. And the famous BabySitter had an upgrade; it cannot only be used as a rocking chair for sleeping, resting and playing but also as a children chair. The seat is covered with a soft comfortable fabric in three colours and when the baby time is over, than you can turn the fabric and you can make your toddler a small children chair!
Pfff. Not only the elections in the US are behind us, our own elections are too! Yesterday morning, after a bad night’s sleep I got up early, picked up our intern Hanae from the train station and went to the NH hotel in Naarden with a car full of baby products for D-day; the day of the jury. Every year again it is a huge organization, but oh so much fun to do! Once arrived, we presented all entries as good as possible with as many available hands as possible (thank you to Trix, Hanae and our drivers) on a couple of big tables. An hour later, the jury came in excited, apart from one or two, a whole bunch of new women like Yaelle, Marianne and Mira with their PR and Fashion agencies, Catelijne and Thea of the consumers magazines Ouders van nu (Today’s Parents) and Kinderen (Children) and sidekick Patricia van Liemt of Qmusic, as a mom and author. We were accompanied by Mieke from Veiligheid.nl (Safety) who pointed us at possible risks of products and by Janneke who critically looked at the designs and user-friendliness. And well, I am here to keep all and everyone on the right path and to emphasize that it is all about innovation, however beautiful the products may look, it’s all about innovation, innovation, innovation! The morning was reserved to look through every product, touch it and try it, the afternoon was reserved for requested demos of products that were in the category: ‘extra complicated’. After this ‘product speed dating’, it was time to compare products but also to fiercely discuss them. We closed the day late in the afternoon with 19 wonderful nominations divided into 6 categories. This afternoon the nominated are informed and from tomorrow on the nominations can be found on http://www.babyinnovationaward.nl. So I cannot spoil it for you. And after this it’s up to the moms and the Ouders van Nu jury day, as well as the online voters!
Instead of all these plastic toys that aren’t really developed with a lot of fantasy, you can also offer your child something different. I used to love to work with crafts as a child and my children have spent quite some Wednesday afternoons playing with clays, cutting, drawing and painting till they got tired and rather spent some time on the computer. The crafts equipment was later stored in the closet and only came out once or twice when a project or poster needed to be made. I was immediately charmed by the new brand Paper Town. Not really for babies but lots of fun if your child grows a little older! These houses, playgrounds, gas stations, warehouses, cars and buses are inspired by the Polish city life, and are designed by Robert Czajka. Paper Town is available in 3 different sets, which you can combine. One set contains four plates of recycled cardboard with lively colour prints. Everything is punched into cardboard and easily pressed out and folded in each other. Glue or tools aren’t necessary, so it seems suitable for children who are not that creative too.
We are getting ready for the Baby Innovation Award 2013 by BabyStuf! The great annual event for the baby product industry that, besides presenting many awards, also brings new and unknown possibilities to attract attention to innovative baby products. Especially in times like these, innovation is essential. Speaking of which, also our election is renewed on five points and made professional steps forward. To begin with, the jury welcomes a few new members. This year there are representatives of: radio QMusic, PR and fashion agencies, Veiligheid.nl, Ouders van Nu, Kinderen, KEK Mama and design agency Buro Raak. Besides this, we thought it was time for a Mom Jury day, so moms can appoint their favourite products in daily life. Ouders van Nu will be responsible for this part and there is a special Ouders van Nu public prize linked to this. Also the winners will be chosen in a different way. The jury, Mom Jury Day and the online voters decide about them together. So there is a better balance between the jury, experiences of consumers and online voters. Moreover, voters from abroad will be excluded. Furthermore, attention will be given in an interactive way to the winners on the Negenmaandenbeurs (Nine Months fair). And to conclude, we will present the new logo that will be shown on all products and media utterances here.
Are you interested to participate in the elections? That is only possible until November 1st 2012. Participants can count on great promotion via trade journal BabyWereld, BabyStuf and the accompanying social media. http://www.babyinnovationaward.nl, The Nine Month Fair and Ouders van Nu!
